Warriors Lose Opener
Posted: 12/13/07

After rallying from a 13 point third quarter deficit and hanging tough with the Clippers in the fourth quarter, the Warriors could not come out on top as they lost their season opener 76-73 at the Oracle Arena. Both teams got off to a poor start as low field goal shooting was in order and the Warriors led 14-10 after one. In the second however, things heated up, and the Clippers began to score at will, going on a 10-2 run to start the quarter. The Warriors were able to weather th estorm and found themselves only down 35-27 at halftime. The third quarter was a different story, as once again, the Clippers came out firing behind the shooting of Cuttino Mobley and Corey Magette, as they took a 14 point lead midway through the third quarter. Things however changed, as the Warriors went on a massive 14-4 run and rallied to tie the game at 54-54 after three quarters of play. Center Andres Biedrins was a force to be reckoned with as he scored on four straight possessions, and helped swing the momentum in Golden State's favor. Coach Don Nelson was pleased with the third quarter effort stating, "I was impressed with the comeback and felt we played some great basketball in the third quarter. Too bad the game is four quarters long, not three". The forth quarter went both ways as the Clippers and Warriors traded leads throughout and with the score 75-73 late, Baron Davis was given the chance to tie the game. He drove to the basket, getting Cassell out of position, but missed a jumper just behind the free throw line. After fouling, and Corey Magette only making 1-2 free throws, the Warriors had one last chance to tie with 1.8 seconds left, but Davis could not capitalize as his jump shot missed the mark, and the Clippers won. Jordan Player of the Game: Sam Cassell got player of the game honors as he had 14 points, and was 4-5 from the field and a perfect 5-5 from the free throw line. 1 2 3 4 Final LAC 10 25 19 22 76 GSW 14 13 27 19 73 Notable Warriors Players: S.Jackson 15 pts, 3 reb (4-8 fg) B.Davis 13 pts, 3 reb, 8 ast (4-18 fg) M.Ellis 10 points, 2 reb, 1 ast (5-17 fg) A.Harrington 10 pts, 4 reb, 3 stl, 3 blk A.
