Tarheels Squeak
By Navy
Second 1-0 Game In Row, Tarheels Come Out Ahead This Time It
wasn't pretty, in fact, it looked a lot like the game from yesterday,
except this time, the Tarheels did just enough to win. With no real
chances until the 6th inning, when Sinkbeil tried tagging up from 3rd on
a shallow fly ball hit to the right fielder, and was thrown out at the
plate, the Tarheels were again struggling up at bat. Thankfully, again,
they got another dominating pitching performance, this time from
Alexander, who actually managed to get the win unlike Silva yesterday.
"This series was pathetic as far as our hitting went, I have no
idea why it was so piss poor, but it was. We need our hitters to refocus
in there and get ready for Tulane, because I will guarantee, there's no
chance they will only score one run, even against Kelton. We play like
this, and we will get completely rolled." were manager
Stone's words after this game.

Devenney Out 2-3 Weeks
Tarheels starting
left fielder Justin Devenney will be out 2-3 weeks with a sprained left
forearm which he suffered in first inning of last night's game against
Navy when he was sliding into second base trying to break up a double
play. He was successful in breaking up the double play at least.
Tarheels Upset by Navy
Lose 1-0 in 12 Innings
After their 9-1
record in February boosting them to the number 6 rank in the country, it
looked like the Tarheels would have no problems with the 124th ranked
Navy Midshipmen. And they didn't. At least on the pitching side of the
ball. It was the hitting that completely let them down tonight. With
chances in a few innings, the Tarheels completely dropped the ball,
handing the Midshipmen a huge upset win. In the 4th inning, with the
bases loaded and 2 outs, Tarheels catcher Kolb struck out ending the
threat, and then again with two runners on base this time in the 7th
inning and two outs, Kolb hit a ball to the top of the fence, only to
have it robbed by the Navy right fielder Groom. The Tarheels just could
never get the clutch hit. Then in the top of the 12th, with a runner on
3rd and two outs, Navy first baseman Duvall, hit a pitch off of Tarheels
pitcher Donnelly that shortstop Adam Brashear picked up and threw over
to first, only for Duvall to be safe by half a step, giving Navy the
first and only run of the game. Manager Stone was pretty calm
considering the situation in his postgame comments, "We just
couldn't hit tonight, we got underneath everything. And when we needed
that clutch hit, we just couldn't get it. But you know what, it's going
to happen, we just have to bounce back tomorrow and put this behind us.
My only regret is that Silva couldn't get the win tonight, he pitched
his ass off for us and we didn't do shit for him."

Tarheels Win
Again, 4-2
End February with 9-1 Record Another
slow start to this one until the 4th inning, when Florie hit a one out
double that he tried stretching into a triple and had, but the cutoff
man overthrew 3rd base, allowing Florie to score and give the Tarheels a
1-0 lead, Kolb would ground out before the Tarheels put together 3 hits,
finished off with an Xavier Erstad 2 RBI double. On the mound it was the
same old thing for Tarheels ace Josh Kelton, until the 8th inning where
he allowed 2 runs on 3 hits before being pulled. After the game Kelton
had this to say, "Everything feels really good right now, all 5 of
my pitches are working and I'm getting hitters to chase my pitches, it's
great right now, but I have to make sure that I'm pitching this way when
it really counts, which is in the ACC tournament and the regionals, if I
can do that, it gives us an even greater chance of going to the College
World Series."

Tarheels
Exact Revenge
19 Hits in Destruction of Mississippi State "What
can you really say about this one? 7 runs, 19 hits, and no runs
against.... we kicked their ass, they played terribly in every single
way other than defense. This won't happen tomorrow, or at least I
wouldn't expect it to, if I were their coach, they would make sure never
to lose a game by more than 3 runs, ever. Anyways, our guys hit the
ball. It was good to see after our loss yesterday where we quite frankly
hit like shit." And boy did the Tarheels ever hit today, there were
5 Tarheels with more than one hit and 6 different hitters who got an RBI
in a complete team effort, a team effort to avenge the team's first loss
of the season just 3 days ago.

Tarheels Perfect Record
Ruined
Wichita State Defeats Tarheels 4-2
It started out just
like half of the Tarheels' games so far this season, both teams
struggling up at-bat, after a few innings, the Tarheels finally get a
couple of runners on, but this time it changed. There was no clutch
hits. After Wichita State took a 1-0 lead, the Tarheels came up in the
top of the 5th and were lead off with a Kolb single, that was then
followed up by a Johnny Erstad double off of the top of the fence,
making it runners on 2nd and 3rd with none out. Moehler popped out to
the catcher, Xavier Erstad struck out and then Snead grounded out to end
the inning. With no runs! After that moment, momentum just completely
shifted to the Shockers side, as they scored 3 more runs to give them a
4-0 lead, and with their ace McLintock on the mound, the Shockers
switched it into shut down mode, allowing the weak singles, but nothing
major as they became the first team to defeat the Tarheels this season.
