Tribe Hurt, Sizemore Placed on 60
Day DL

(Cleveland, OH) - They say after a player
gets a contract extension that they perform better. This
was not the case for Grady Sizemore and the Cleveland
Indians. In the Indians season opener against the White
Sox, Sizemore broke his ankle on a slide to second to
prevent a double play.
This injury will keep the Indians' center
fielder out for some time. His doctors have said that it
is not a clean break and they are not sure weather or not
Sizemore will play this season. Sizemore was distraught
about the thought of not playing in the 2006 season.
All of this happened right after Sizemore
was signed long term. Back on March 29th Sizemore signed
a contract extension through 2011 with a club option for
2012. If this negotiation was done 5 days later, would
the Indians still have made that decision? That is the
question everyone is asking after this incident.
