Wolverine fans can take a deep breath. The first game of the season is in the books and there have been no disappointing losses so far. Junior running back Brandon Minor carried the ball and his team past the Utah Utes for a 55-21 victory to open the season. Minor rushed for 166 yards and 4 touchdowns.
Stephen Threet showed some potential as the future of Michigan quarterbacks as he threw for 275 yards and 2 touchdowns in his first start as a Wolverine. However, he also threw two interceptions in the game, one of which was returned for a Utah touchdown.
The Wolverine defense looked solid all game long as they only allowed one touchdown all game despite the team allowing 21 points. The other two Utah touchdowns came from a kick return and an interception return. Donovan Warren stood out at cornerback as he forced two early turnovers on an interception and a forced fumble. Morgan Trent returned an interception for a touchdown of his own late in the fourth quarter for the Wolverines final points of the day.
