New Michigan Wolverines coach Rich Rodriguez will have his first chance to display the new-look Wolverines this Saturday as Michigan opens the season against the Utes of Utah. So far, Rodriguez's stint as a head coach of the Wolverines has been controversial at best. From an ugly departure from West Virginia University to causing some of Michigan's top players to transfer, it is safe to say Rich is not everyone's favorite coach in Michigan right now. He will have a chance to quiet the skeptics on the field on Saturday.
After a few weeks of strenuous position battles, redshirt freshman and Georgia Tech transfer Stephen Threet has been named the starter at quarterback for this game. His pocket-passer style may not be perfect for Rich Rodriguez's spread system, but Rodriguez says he is confident in Threet's ability to move the ball. However, look for junior running back Brandon Minor to be a more common sight for the Wolverines offense, and look for a strong showing from the Wolverine defense as Michigan attempts to start the Rich Rodriguez era off with a win.
