The Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman introduced his new scorer today during a news conference at Joe Louis Arena. Russian Alexei Morozov agreed to terms a day earlier and he is planning to join the team within the next two weeks.
Yzerman said \"Morozov will be a big part of the teams scoring power, he is fantastic skater who can make big turnovers and make the team win\".
Pittsburgh Penguins drafted Morozov in the first round, 24 overall, in 1995. He played 7 seasons with the Penguins during 1997-2004, scoring 84 goals and 135 assists in 451 games. From the year 2004 to 2007 he has been playing in the Russian Super League with AK Bars Kazan, recording good scoring numbers (77 goals, 101 assists for 178 points through 162 games). In the RSL playoffs he made 44 points through 31 games.
Detroit Red Wings GM also said that they are looking for a solid center on the fourth line to complete the roster for now.
