The 49ers are going to make their 4th straight trip to the Super Bowl after cruising past the Philadelphia Eagles 37-13 in the NFC Championship in San Francisco.
QB Alex Smith threw for 314 yards and 3 TDs, while RB Frank Gore paced the run game with 141 yards and a TD. FB Jacob Hester caught 2 TDs and TE Vernon Davis totaled 141 yards receiving and a TD.
The biggest story of the game was the 49er defense, who really stepped up to the plate in one of the biggest games of the year. The defensive line and linebackers pressured and hit QB Donovan McNabb all game, forcing him into several mistakes including 2 interceptions. FS Dashon Goldson made the final pick with less than 2 minutes to go to sew up the NFC title.
The 49ers now travel to the Super Bowl to take on the New England Patriots, winners of the AFC following a 30-3 bashing of the Colts. The last time these two teams met was 2 seasons ago, when the 49ers overcame a 35-17 4th-quarter deficit to win 37-35.
