Second stringers can\'t hold lead, 49ers still clinch homefield
Before the 49ers regular season finale aginst the Chargers kicked off, the 49ers received some good news: the Titans upset the Eagles 24-0 to allow the 49ers to clinch homefield advantage throughout the playoffs.
The 1st teamers only played one half and built up a 19-7 halftime lead, but the 2nd stringers couldn\'t hang on as the Chargers came back to defeat the 49ers 23-19 in San Francisco.
Backup QB Pat White threw an interception that was returned for a TD early in the 4th quarter to give the Chargers their first lead of the day. White later drove the 49ers down the field and had them in position to win the game, but a sack on 4th down with only 12 seconds left stalled the drive and clinched the win for San Diego.

RB Jamaal Charles had 205 all-purpose yards and scored a TD in the first half. FB Jacob Hester accounted for the 49ers 1st TD when he picked up a fumble by Gore and ran 73 yards for a TD on the first play from scrimmage.
The defense played solid despite the loss, led by DT Ronald Fields\' 2 sacks.
