QB Alex Smith had his 2nd 4-interception day in 3 games as the 49ers played poorly on both sides of the ball as they dropped a 24-13 decision to NFC West rival Seattle in San Francisco.
Smith threw for 377 yards and a late TD, but his 4 interceptions ruined several drives deep in Seattle territory and doomed any chance of a comeback. Smith completed 27 of 48 passes, most of them in the 2nd half as the 49ers tried to erase a 24-6 deficit.
Seattle was very methodical in controlling the clock and keeping the usually potent 49er offense in check. RB Frank Gore managed only 40 yards rushing on 19 carries, but helped out in the passing game with 112 yards receiving on 8 catches. TE Vernon Davis also had a big day, totaling 174 yards receiving on 10 catches.
The 49er defense played well in the 4th quarter despite a poor performance in the first 3 quarters, giving the 49er offense several promising opportunities to swing the momentum. Following Smith\'s TD pass in the 4th quarter, the 49ers were able to recover an onside kick, but a sack given up on 4th down later in the drive stalled the comeback attempt.
The 49ers fall to 7-2 and travel to Atlanta next week in an attempt to regain their Super Bowl form.
