CB Chris Gamble picked off QB Alex Smith 4 times and returned 2 for TDs to lead the Panthers to a 42-32 upset over the 49ers in San Francisco.
Gamble returned one interception 95 yards right before halftime to give the Panthers a 21-14 halftime lead. His final interception with under 2 minutes left stalled the 49er comeback and put the game out of reach with his 2nd TD return.
The 49ers fell behind 35-14 but managed to cut the lead to 35-32 before Gamble\'s final interception. Smith threw for 226 yards and 2 TDs despite the 4 interceptions.
RB Frank Gore had 197 yards rushing in the loss and caught a TD pass. WR Darrell Jackson had 110 yards receiving and a 69-yard TD catch that cut the lead to three.
The 49er defense struggled against rookie QB Tim Tebow, giving up 3 TD passes. DE Derrick Harvey had 3 tackles and a sack in the loss
The 49ers drop to 6-1 but look to regain form next week against the Kansas City Chiefs.
