The 49ers built a 26-7 lead and held off a late Giants comeback to pull out a 26-21 victory in New York.
QB Alex Smith threw for 265 yards and 2 TDs to lead the 49er offense, which ran up over 400 yards of total offense. RB Frank Gore added 137 yards on the ground, helped Smith with 43 yards receiving and put the 49ers on the board first with a 29-yard TD scamper in the 1st quarter. TE Vernon Davis led the receiving corps with 78 yards and a TD.
Defensively, the 49ers did a great job keeping the Giants in check until the 4th quarter, giving up 2 pass TDs in the final few minutes. Smith drove the offense down the field in hope of putting the game out of reach, but the Giants managed to intercept a goaline pass in the end zone to stall the drive and give themselves a chance. The Giants cut the lead to 26-21 but was unable to recover the onside kick.
The 49ers improve to 4-0 and travel back home to welcome the Chicago Bears.
