Gore\'s late TD run caps shootout victory over Saints
RB Frank Gore capped off a great day with a game-winning 31-yard TD run with only 37 seconds remaining to the lift the 49ers to a 45-38 shootout win over the Saints in the Superdome.
Gore finished with 195 yards and 3 TDs on the ground to lead the 49ers, who had over 500 yards of offense. QB Alex Smith threw for 280 yards and 3 TDs but was also picked off 3 times. The 49ers turned the ball over 4 times and struggled defensively against the pass. TE Vernon Davis led the receiving corps with 126 yards and 2 TDs, including a 77-yard catch & run score.
Defensively, the 49ers had a hard time keeping Drew Brees and the Saint offense in check, allowing them to roll up over 400 yards of offense. Reggie Bush had a big TD run and also returned a kickoff for a TD. The only bright spots for the defense was DE Marques Douglas, who intercepted a pass in the 1st quarter, and DE Derrick Harvey, who recorded a sack.
For his efforts this week, Gore was named NFL Offensive Player of the Week.
The 49ers improve to 3-0 and stay on the road next week, traveling to New York to take on the rival Giants.
