Miami Gardens, FL.--It is being reported by Fox Sports that former Seattle Mariner and Arizona Diamondback manager Bob Melvin has expressed interest in managing the Marlins.
While the Marlins managerial position remains occupied by Fredi Gonzalez, owner Frank Micello wants to bring in his own manager.
Gonzalez lead the Marlins to a 71-91 record in his first year as both a Major League and Marlin manager.
The Marlins have fired Fredi Gonzalez after only one year as the club\'s manager.
\"I\'d like to thank the good Lord for allowing me this special opportunity to manage in the Major Leagues. I wish the Marlins organization the best of luck in the coming years,\" Fredi Gonzalez said. \"I will use this as a stepping stone for future opportunities.\"
According to reports, Bob Melvin is the front runner for the job, but other names being thrown around are former Marlins manager Joe Girardi, who was fired after the 2006 season after disagreements with the front office, as well as former Yankee bench coach and Oriole manager Lee Mazzilli.
