Wolverine Defense, Special Teams Secure Victory
Posted: 07/18/08

In a game that showed very little offensive production from either side, the Michigan Wolverines were still able to come away with a 30-6 victory against the Miami Redhawks. The Wolverines did manage to score the only offensive touchdown of the game on a 21 yard Brandon Minor rush, but it was the Wolverine defense and special teams that carried Michigan on Saturday.

With two minutes to go in the first half, the Redhawks managed to kick a field goal to tie the game at 3-3. Greg Mathews proceeded to return the following kickoff for a touchdown to give the Wolverines a lead they would never relinquish. Sophomore cornerback Donovan Warren iced the game early in the fourth quarter with an interception in the endzone that he ran back 103 yards for the Wolverines third and final touchdown of the game.

It was not a pretty victory, but the Wolverines got the job done at home to keep their all time record against the Mid-American Conference undefeated. With the victory, Michigan also jumped into the top 25 at #22. Michigan travels to South Bend next week to take on their rival, the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame.
