The Western Illinois Bulldogs (0-0) vs. The Radford Highlanders (0-3)

The Bulldogs won the tip and then they never looked back. Mamadou Helms kicked off the Bulldogs run by scoring the first eight points of the game. Sloppy defense by the Bulldogs allowed the Highlanders to stay within single digits for most of the first half. Walter Bookout started out cold but then hit a trio of threes at the end of the first half to put the Bulldogs up 29-18. Helms had 13 of the Bulldogs 29 points in the first half.
In the second half the Highlanders started with the ball but couldn't get anything going. The Bulldogs went on a 10-3 run right off the start. It was 44-23 with 7:55 remaining when the Bulldogs and Highlanders started filing their benches into the game. Even the WIU bench beat the Highlanders bench still outscoring them 10-8; 54-31 with 4:35 remaining. Clifton really showed his stuff when he got his time in the sun scoring nine points off the bench. The Bulldogs ended up getting their first win of the season, winning 73-42. Coach Kagemann said this after the game, "It's really satisfying to have my first game coaching here be a win, I'm sure there will be many more. I'm really impressed with how well Helms lead our team. He played really well tonight. Let's see Kaman did an amazing job on defense tonight. Bookout and Clifton played really well off of the bench. Oh and I found out that Wellington and Crosswhite both head our press really well. All in all great game and I'm looking forward to the rest of this season." The Bulldogs are now 1-0 and are looking to go 2-0 against IPFW.
