The 49ers lit up the Patriots in the 1st half en route to a 41-17 Super Bowl victory to complete the 49ers' attempt at a four-peat.
The 49ers totaled 371 yards of offense in the 1st half as they built a 31-10 lead. MVP RB Frank Gore led the charge, totaling 145 yards and 2 TDs for the game. QB Alex Smith paced the passing game, throwing for 288 yards and 2 TDs.
WR Mario Manningham, who failed to meet his high expectations this season, stepped up big in the Super Bowl, nabbing 5 catches for a game-high 91 yards, including a 50-yard TD catch. RB Jamaal Charles caught the other TD pass, when he took a screen pass 30 yards to the house.
The 49ers got off to a sour start by giving up a 97-yard opening kickoff return for a TD, but the defense held strong in allowing the offense to dominate. The defense intercepted QB Tom Brady 4 times, including MLB Patrick Willis' 95-yard TD return.
The 49ers finish 16-3 overall. |
